According to its preliminary results, the SOGAZInsurance Group collected insurance premiums worth 43.2 billion rubles in 2006, which by more than 60% exceeds the corresponding figure for 2005. The breakdown of premiums is as follows: life insurance – 2.1 billion rubles (8% growth on the 2005 figure); personal insurance (excluding life insurance) – 9.4 billion rubles (25% growth); property and liability insurance – 15.4 billion rubles (86% growth); mandatory civil liability insurance (OSAGO) – 0.8 billion rubles (47% growth); and mandatory medical insurance – 15.5 billion rubles (80% growth).

In 2006, insurance claim payments rose by 1.5 times, totalling 25.9 billion rubles. The breakdown of the payouts is as follows: life insurance – 0.8 billion rubles (79% growth on the 2005 figure); personal insurance (excluding life insurance) – 8.3 billion rubles (24% growth); property and liability insurance – 1.7 billion rubles (27% growth); mandatory civil liability insurance (OSAGO) – 0.3 billion rubles (43% growth); and mandatory medical insurance – 14.7 billion rubles (90% growth).

Commenting on the 2006 results, SOGAZ Aleksei Smertin, head of the SOGAZ Insurance Group Marketing Department, said the following: ‘The SOGAZ Insurance Group has managed not only to exceed budget plans for 2006, but also to beat the company’s forecasts for 2007 as well, surpassing the targeted volume of premiums by 133%. The company’s financial indicators clearly demonstrate that we have chosen the correct strategy. As a result, SOGAZ has developed from an insurance company with a few branches into the largest public finance corporation, its capitalization constantly on the rise’.
